Whiplash (2014)

Terence Fletcher: Neiman, you earned the part. Alternates, will you clean the blood off my drum set?

Director Damien Chazelle directed an 18-minute short entitled Whiplash in 2013 and the short went on to receive critical acclaim at the Sundance Film Festival. The original short featured Johnny Simmons as the Drummer (later portrayed by Miles Teller as Andrew Neiman) and J.K. Simmons appeared in both the short and the film as Fletcher.
Bold Films financed the full-length adaptation for $3.3 Million and Whiplash went on to enter the hearts of many critics and anxiety-ridden audience members alike, garnering three Academy Award wins including Simmons for Best Supporting Actor.

The following clip syncs up the short with arguably the most famous scene in the movie. Something to do with tempo… and how it’s not quite up to Fletcher’s standards…

Starring: Miles Teller as Andrew Neiman, J.K. Simmons as Terence Fletcher and Paul Resier as Jim Neiman, dir. Damien Chazelle.
